The Miss Utility MD/DC Damage Prevention Committee holds the annual Dig Smart Awards as part of its quest to promote underground utility safety and recognize contractors who steadily work toward damage prevention.

Nomination

If your company goes above and beyond to ensure damages are prevented, apply for the Dig Smart Awards by completing the online entry form, available starting in July.

Nominated companies are evaluated based on their damage prevention procedures, employee training programs, enforcement of damage prevention laws, and participation in public/government forums, damage prevention meetings and conferences, and trade organizations.

Awards Ceremony

Winning companies will receive two complimentary two-night packages to the next Greater Chesapeake Damage Prevention Training Conference (GCDPTC), where they will be recognized by their peers as leaders in damage prevention.

Dig Smart Award Winners

This year, the committee reviewed entries from some of the safest contractors in Maryland and Washington, D.C. These outstanding organizations were chosen from a group of excellent nominations from contractors across Maryland and the District of Columbia. The winners were determined after a review of each company’s damage prevention practices by a select panel of industry experts.

Excellence Award Winner: Anchor Construction Corporation
Anchor Construction Corporation is one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most respected and leading self-performing utility and infrastructure firms, delivering superior solutions for public agencies, utilities and businesses east and west of the Chesapeake Bay (throughout MD, VA, DE and DC). Miss Utility Dig Smart Award Winner: Ferguson Trenching Company
Ferguson Trenching Company has been a leader in underground utility and sitework construction since 1966, delivering high-quality services for private developers, local utilities, counties, municipalities, and state and federal agencies across Maryland. Ferguson Trenching Company specializes in the installation of gas lines, electric cables, water and sewer lines, steam lines, storm drains, dry utilities, and offers expertise in directional boring as well as paving and site work. Known for their expertise, trustworthiness, and commitment to safety and excellence, their award-winning team consistently provides superior results on every project.

Honorable Mention: Garney Construction
Garney is a national leader in water and wastewater construction. Since 1961, they’ve focused on building water and wastewater systems of all sizes for municipal, federal, industrial, and private clients. They specialize in collaborative project delivery solutions, including CMAR and design-build for their clients nationwide.

Honorable Mention: M. Luis Construction Co., Inc.
M. Luis Construction Co., Inc. is a woman and minority-owned, multi-generational Asphalt Manufacturer and Construction Services company specializing in roadway resurfacing and hardscape restoration. Originally founded in 1985, M. Luis has spent nearly three decades building roads and relationships within the Mid-Atlantic region.
