Miss Utility Presents the 2015-2016 Dig Smart Awards
The Miss Utility MD/DC Damage Prevention Committee holds the annual Dig Smart Awards as part of its quest to promote underground utility safety and recognize contractors who steadily work toward damage prevention. This year the committee reviewed entries from some of the safest contractors in Maryland and Washington, D.C., making it a challenge to pick just two winners.
The 2015-2016 Dig Smart Awards winners are Gray & Son, Inc. for Maryland and Anchor Construction Corporation for Washington, D.C. These two outstanding organizations were chosen from a group of excellent nominations from contractors across Maryland and the District of Columbia. The two winners were determined after a review of each company’s damage prevention practices by a select panel of industry experts.
Gray & Son, Inc. is a leading contractor in the Baltimore metropolitan area for both private and public construction projects. The company specializes in asphalt paving, land excavating, utilities, concrete, soil stabilization, sediment control, storm water management and commercial snow removal. Gray & Son was the recipient of the Dig Smart Award for Maryland for 2013-2014 and 2011–2012 and was an Honorable Mention recipient for 2012-2013.
Anchor Construction Corporation is recognized as a leading multi-disciplined infrastructure construction contractor with ongoing projects throughout the Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas. People who have partnered with Anchor have resulted in innovative, cost effective and quality construction, exceeding their expectations for over 30 years. Anchor's team of dedicated professionals has an unwavering commitment to: integrity, safety and quality. Anchor is "grounded in excellence." Anchor was also the recipient of the Dig Smart Award for Washington, D.C., for 2014-2015 and 2011-2012.
B. Frank Joy LLC receives this year’s Dig Smart Excellence Award. This award recognizes companies that have been awarded the Dig Smart Award on three different occasions in the past and are maintaining the highest level of safety standards. B. Frank Joy, a veteran-owned business, specializes in the installation, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure for both public and private sectors. B. Frank Joy also received the Excellence Award in the 2014-2015 and 2012-2013 Dig Smart Awards.
Rommel Engineering & Construction is the recipient of this year’s Dig Smart Honorable Mention Award. Based in Linthicum, Md., the company was established in 1994 and specializes in infrastructure traffic signalization and streetlight maintenance. Rommel has been leading the industry with projects ranging from minor traffic signal modifications, interchange reconfigurations, ITS projects and CCTV systems, to large multi-phase interstate reconstruction. Rommel can help owners and project engineers see their project through, from concept to completion and beyond.
The winners were recognized at the 2016 Greater Chesapeake Damage Prevention Training Conference, which took place Oct. 18-21 in Ocean City, Md. Congratulations to the four companies recognized this year, and thank you to all organizations who submitted nominations.
