I. Call To Order and Introduction:
Wayne Gilmer (Utiliquest) called the regular monthly meeting to order at 9:35 am.
Introductions were made.
The minutes of November 27, 2007 were approved with one correction. Tom Baldwin (BGE) asked that the ITIC
percentage be brought up to date.
II. Safety Item:
Wayne Gilmer reviewed frostbite to include causes of, degrees of severity and prevention.
III. Chris McMcurry/MGH Advertising Public Awareness Campaign Update:
Chris McMurry reviewed marketing efforts for 2008 to promote damage prevention. He said that ITIC Lite brochures
will be given out at the home and garden shows.

A “Diamond Dig” promotion with the Bowie Baysox is being created to gain media coverage and promote safe
digging practices.
IV. Damage Prevention Presentations:
Wayne Gilmer gave feedback on recent presentations for WSSC, WM Schlosser and RHN Splicing. He also provided
feedback on the pipeline safety meetings held by Paradigm Liaison Services in November 2007.
Wayne stated there were several presentations scheduled with Anchor Construction, Wagman, Inc. and Miles Electric
Company in the coming weeks.
V. Trade Shows/Safety Events:
Chris McMurry reviewed the upcoming trade show schedule and stressed the need for volunteers.
VI. Locator Achievement/Dig Smart Committee:
Dora Parks reviewed the Awards process and also gave an update on the nominations received as well
as the ballot mailings. The Awards night is scheduled for April 17, 2008 at the Columbia Sheraton.
VII. Marking Standards Group:
Wayne Gilmer said the meeting would not be held because of the pending weather. He stated that the Committee
is “wrapping things up” and they would be choosing photos for the brochure at the next meeting.
VII. Title 12 Steering Committee:
Updates were reviewed by Matt Ruddo to include topics such as “ticket life” and definitions. The
next set of meetings are scheduled for February 8th & 15th, 2008.
IX. MD/DC Subscribers Committee Meeting:
Wayne Gilmer reviewed meeting topics such as advertising budget, Federal one-call grants, contractor
nights and public awareness campaigns.
Dora Parks explained the process of ADC’s Mid Atlantic numbering system and the grid format changes that
are affecting the Subscribers grid databases.
X. FTTP/FIOS Progress Report:
Nelson Sneed (Verizon) provided the following two month FTTP trench footage projections:

XI. Open Discussion:
Wayne Gilmer asked Alice Gilmore (Long Fence) how things were going and she replied that they needed to
find out how they could go about getting a Miss Utility damage prevention presentation. Andy
Kaldmaa (Long Fence) added that they work statewide and would need several presentations at different
locations. Wayne asked Andy to email him some projected dates and he would follow up with Alice and Andy.
John Wiebenson (Georgetown BID) asked questions about the Marking Guidleines Committee and wanted to know if he
could join the group. Wayne replied with some history on the reasons for the Committee and covered
the guidelines in more detail.
There was a general discussion about Damage Prevention Chairman Position and the nominating process. Everyone
agreed that Wayne should continue as the Chairman and he accepted.

Upcoming Meetings:
The next Maryland/DC Damage Prevention meeting is scheduled for February 26, 2008 at the Miss Utility Center.
Coffee and donuts will be served at 9:00 am. The meeting will begin at 9:30 am. The next Marking Guidelines Group
meeting will be held immediately following the MD/DC Damage Prevention meeting.
The 2008 Maryland/DC Subscribers meeting will be held February 14th, April 10th, and June 12th, 2008 at
the Miss Utility Center. Coffee and donuts will be served at 9:30 am, and the meeting will begin at 10:00 am.
There being no further business to be brought before the committee, the meeting was adjourned at 11:10 am.
