Minutes of Maryland/DC Damage Prevention Meeting
September 25, 2007

At 9:40am Wayne Gilmer called the meeting to order. Introductions were made.
The previous meeting minutes were reviewed and accepted with two clarifications: 1st by Tom Baldwin: Page 2 refers to
subtitle (12.1.08) and should by (12.108) 2nd by Dora Parks: Page 3 the next MD/DC Subscribers Meeting should read to
begin at 10am and coffee & doughnuts to be served at 9:30am.
Dora Parks showed the updated Miss Utility DVD that includes the 811 updates.
Wayne reviewed the Safety Message on “Hard Hats”. They should be worn on all required job sites, should be worn properly
and should be inspected and replaced as necessary.
MGH Update- In Chris McMurray’s absence, Wayne reviewed that the homeowner brochures are complete and have been
popular at recent Home & Garden Shows. As well, the new promo items (lip balm, yo-yos, etc) are very popular. The
new carpet that was ordered has arrived and is very attractive. Also, Wayne reviewed the detailed events for the
upcoming

Wayne wanted to give special thanks to WSSC for their tremendous support for these upcoming Contractor Nights. no
Damage Prevention Presentations- feedback provided by Wayne for presentation at Wagman Construction. Wayne stated that
they were well received with many questions being asked and as a result, the communication lines have been opened. Mark
Hamrick added that there is an upcoming presentation in Southern Maryland on November 7th.
Trade Shows- Wayne provided feedback from the Chesapeake Region Safety Conference. He said it was a great event, put
together well with good attendance. Wayne also provided feedback from the Fall Montgomery County Home & Garden Show. They
had a perfect spot for the booth and the promo items were a big hit.
Scheduled Trade Shows- No coverage needed! All upcoming trade shows are booked for volunteers. Thank you!
Dig Smart/ Locator Achievement- Dora Parks explained that we are hoping for another outstanding event. Nelson Sneed
will chair this committee, again and welcomes any feedback to promote another successful event.
Marking Standards Group- During the last meeting, the group clarified language relating to white lining and discussed the
marking of laterals. Also two labeling items were added: (1) Korduct (KD) and (2) Fiberglass (FG).
Title 12 Steering Committee- A meeting was held on 9/5/07 and Tom Baldwin explained that the committee discussed for four
hours definitions; to include the definition of a designer. Also, it’s expected that the attendees trickle the meeting
information back to their counterparts. The next meeting will be on 9/27/07 at 8am.
MD/DC Subscribers Committee- Wayne reviewed topics discussed at the last meeting, to include: Advertising, 811 usage, ITIC
and ticket statusing.

Open Discussion: Dora wanted to thank Verizon and their primes/ subs for making a conscious effort to use ITIC. The
center and the subscribers greatly appreciate it. Nelson thanked Wayne for leading these meetings and for always having
a passion for Damage Prevention. Nelson than asked what else can this group do to help prevent damages. He suggested the
need to educate the companies who are not calling in tickets before digging. Wayne suggested better promoting the Damage
Prevention Presentations. Dennis Lescaleet referred to Va and the SCC and their requirements for training of offenders of One
Call Law/ Requirements. Tony Goodman from WG stated that there are many levels/ avenues for training and sometimes the most
effective training happens right at the job site. Tom Baldwin stated that BGE sends repeat offenders of digging with no
tickets a letter to remind them of the law and names of these companies are forwarded to MOSH, as well.
